Last of our early planted lettuce harvested today. While haven’t had many of the big brown or black slugs this year, a lettuce head like this contains multiple little grey ones. It’s worth taking the whole thing apart into its component leaves before storing it and getting rid of all the passengers, otherwise they just keep chomping away in the fridge! . . #lettuce #slugs #greenthumb #instagarden #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #bcgardener #organicgardens #urbangardeners #urbanorganicgardening #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #vegetablegardens #gardeningknowhow

Here’s the difference between fall planted (left) and spring planted (right) garlic, in our harden. Same seed garlic, same conditions, just different timing. What you may not be able to see is that the one on the right is one large round clove, not a head of many cloves. I know spring planted garlic does work for some folks, so there are probably differences between varieties and you need to pick the right one. I’ve been growing and replanting this same softneck for more than 10 years so it’s very well adapted to our fall planting habits by now! . . #garlic #springgarlic #fallgarlic #growyourowngarlic #Greenthumb #instagarden #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #bcgardener #organicgardens #urbangardeners #urbanorganicgardening #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #vegetablegardens #gardeningknowhow

This new bed is on ground that was previously a pathway so very compacted. See how the far end is much lusher than the near end? I loosened that end with a fork, but not the near end, before spreading cover crop seed, and you can really see the difference. . . #Greenthumb #instagarden #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #bcgardener #organicgardens #urbangardeners #urbanorganicgardening #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #vegetablegardens #newgarden #gardeningknowhow #covercrop
