#greetthegrower day 7: less glam side This is our 3-bin pallet composting area. Just off to the right is our old bathtub which made a great storage area for finished compost until I was finally persuaded to get rid of it! We’ve improved this area since, by adding an old swing set frame and hanging the sifter from it - the wheelbarrow fits neatly underneath and it makes screening the compost much easier. There’s usually a potato or squash plant growing out of the bins somewhere! . . #Greenthumb #instagarden #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #organicgardens #urbangardeners #urbanorganicgardening #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #compost #composting #gardening101 #gardeningknowhow #composter #pallets #meetthegrower

I posted a pic of some pea trellises the other day, and was asked about using them for other veg. So I did some digging in the archives and this pic from 2007 shows beans and cukes on the same trellis frames. These frames have acquired an extra horizontal bar halfway up as I was using them to hold trays of seedlings while still planting stuff in the ground! . . #Greenthumb #instagarden #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #trellis #polebeans #cucumbers #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #organicgardens #urbangardeners #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #vegetablegardens #greenhouses #greenhousegrown #greenhousegardening #gardeningknowhow

Here’s the tall version of the folding trellis I posted earlier, in this case set over some tall vining peas. I run strings between nails set in the top and bottom bars. At the end of the season I unhook the strings from the nails and compost the whole lot, strings and vines together. Peas do tend to lean out past the vertical strings, so as they grow I run horizontal strings as well to hold them in. . . #Greenthumb #instagarden #trellis #peas #snappeas #snowpeas #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #amateurgardener #organicgardens #urbangardeners #suburbangardener #urbanorganicgardening #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #vegetablegardens

#greetthegrower day 5 “detail or closeup” This breadseed poppy from last year is one of many that self-seed themselves around the front yard. Most are medium-frilly, some are singles, but this one was super-doubled! . #meetthegrower #poppyflower #selfseeders #breadseedpoppy #papaver #Greenthumb #instagarden #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #organicgardens #urbangardeners #urbanorganicgardening #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #flowergarden #flowergardens #flowergardening

#greetthegrower day 4: favorite tool Not a very exciting pic, I know, but this is indeed my favorite tool. It’s a long-handled (instead of d-handled) fork. Instead of having to use arm and back muscles to dig, you can use body weight and leverage. Can also be used like a small broadfork to let a little air into the soil without turning it. . . #gardenfork #favoritetool #meetthegrower #Greenthumb #instagarden #gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #organicgardens #urbangardeners #suburbangardener #urbanorganicgardening #gardenhomestead #urbanhomestead #homesteadgardens #backyardhomestead #vegetablegarden #vegetablegardening #vegetablegardens #newgardener #gardeningknowhow #gardeningnewbie
