When we started sheet mulching our front lawn it caused a conversation with our neighbor, whose house you can see in the background of this pic, quite close to where we were working. She came out and watched us for a few minutes and we thought “uh oh, now we’re going to have trouble“ but no: she said “I have an old cotton rug you can have to help, if you like”, so she brought it out and laid it down, and you can see it as the pink patch on the far side. She was a lovely neighbor 😀 . . #sheetmulching #permaculture #cardboardmulch #frontyardgarden #Gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #vegetablegarden #instagardening #organicgardener #vegetablegardening #composting #urbangardens #gardeningislife #amateurgardener #newgarden #gardenhomestead #organicgardens #urbangardeners #vegetablegardens #gardening4pleasure #suburbangardener #newgardener #everyonecangrowtheirown

Some of our stored garlic has started to sprout, so I’ve been planting it in pots and eating the green shoots. These went into tonights egg fried rice. . #greengarlic #garlicshoots #eggfriedrice #kitchengarden #homegrowndinner #Gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #containergardening #vegetablegarden #instagardening #organicgardener #vegetablegardening #urbangardens #gardeningislife #amateurgardener #newgarden #gardenhomestead #containergardens #organicgardens #urbangardeners #vegetablegardens #herbgardening #herbgardens #gardening4pleasure #suburbangardener #everyonecangrowtheirown

Now I’m regretting getting rid of two rickety ladders in the last few years, I could have used them as trellises! The bed in front of the house is full of Siberian iris every June, I take the same pictures every year! They badly need digging and dividing this year, though. . . #siberianiris #Gardenersofinstagram #frommygarden #organicgarden #urbangardening #gardenideas #flowergarden #instagardening #organicgardener #urbangardens #flowergardens #gardeningislife #amateurgardener #gardenhomestead #organicgardens #urbangardeners #flowergardening #gardening4pleasure #suburbangardener #everyonecangrowtheirown

A few years ago I organized a “Homestead Skills” weekend, and one of the classes was this dry stone retaining wall session, taught by a local stonemason and built at the host homestead. It was a great day, and several students have built their own wall since. . . #drystonewall #stonemason #homesteadskills #gardenwall #gardenideas #gardenhomestead #gardeningisfun #homesteadinglife #homesteadersofinstagram #offgridhomestead #lostskills #primitiveskills
